Pet friendly park in Martha's Vineyard: Farm Pond Preserve - Oak Bluffs When Oak Bluffs voters in 1992 purchased land for a new elementary school, they also purchased an abutting 17.5 acres of meadow, pond and wetland to serve as an “outdoor laboratory” for pupils. A conservation easement over this land was awarded to the land bank, which manages it both for student study and for general public enjoyment. Follow directions to the Trade Wind Fields Preserve (property no. 18). Signboard at trailhead describes trail link to the Farm Pond Preserve. In off-hours, and for universal access, parking is permitted at the Oak Bluffs school. |

The route climbs to several high points, where views may be limited by fast-growing trees and shrubs, but doesn’t reach the summit of 311-foot Peaked Hill, the island’s highest point. |

Pet friendly park in Martha's Vineyard: Chappaquiddick Island - Poucha Pond Reservation - Salt Marsh Stroll Trail This easy walk, best undertaken off-season, when the weather is cool and the biting insects gone, explores a 147-acre reservation perched on the shore of Poucha Pond. The pond is a body of saltwater connected to Cape Poge Bay by a narrow channel that flows under the infamous Chappaquiddick Island dike bridge. The reservation’s trail system samples a variety of habitats, including forest, shrubland, and salt marsh. |
